In short, Metroblogging is a platform that allows posters to share their personal thoughts and ideas about their city with the outside world. And in the same vein, it allows the outside world to garner a better view about the city and its habitants from a cultural perspective.

metblogs is metblogs coz it brings the authors closer together. I remember reading a post in karachi where an author had said, "You know karachi is a small place when two metblog authors meet up at the traffic light" or something to that effect. And the comments showed that most people knew who these two authors were without their names being mentioned. This is endearing. We all have newpapers are other news sites online to turn to, what metblogs does is to introduce and induct us into another community. When the mumbai blasts had happened the entire mumbai metblogs community was tracing each other in everyway to find out if everyone and their families were safe. We are close knit and its best tht way.
I want to know who lost their umbrella, how, why, when, where and also what color the umbrella was. Coz that according to me is the essence of Metblogs.

The reason I like/read metblogs is because the writer from blogging.la points out not that he forgot his umbrella, but that he doesn’t own an umbrella. It’s the “insider” view that shows the uniqueness of the city and the people who live there that makes it more than news.

I was thinking some more about this over the last few days, and it occurred to me that if traditional news outlets are the play-by-play announcers, Metroblogging is the color commentary. :)
